I asked him what he meant.

“If you place two dominant pieces together,” he elaborated, “they will annihilate each other (multiplying by zero). Or, if you place a powerful piece next to a very subtle one, you kill the subtle one (multiplying by zero).”

I understood it immediately; something clicked in my mind. Because of this, I believe that truly respecting the intentionality and raison d’être of an artwork requires correct placement. It is not just a matter of height and lighting, but a curation of the entire surrounding environment.
